A failing heat pump gets diagnosed before it gets repaired
The heat pump has become the central appliance in many South Shore homes: it heats in winter and cools in summer, wall-mounted or central. When it starts misbehaving, the reflex is to panic and assume the worst - but most breakdowns have a precise, identifiable cause, provided you take the time to look for it.
The classics: a heat pump that no longer heats, an outdoor unit covered in ice because the defrost cycle has stopped running, a refrigerant leak costing you capacity, a struggling compressor, a temperamental control board or thermostat. Each has its own solution, and the cost varies enormously from one case to the next - which is why we never quote a number before we have found it.
Wall-mounted or central, the diagnostic principle is the same, but the failures do not present quite the same way. A wall-mounted unit (mini-split) has its indoor and outdoor units linked by refrigerant lines: the trouble often comes from the outdoor unit, the connection or the board. A central unit, tied into the home's ductwork, shares symptoms with a central heating system. We know both, across all brands, and we adapt the diagnosis to your unit.
How we work: we diagnose first, we identify the real cause even if it takes time, and we tell you the repair price before touching the unit. If it turned out to be a simple sensor, all the better for you. If it is heavier than that, you know before we start.

"At its age, better to replace it than repair it"
Maybe. But maybe not - and that is exactly the kind of decision nobody should make for you, or sell you without showing you the numbers. A heat pump generally lasts 10 to 15 years. Before that, most breakdowns are worth repairing. After that, it is a case-by-case conversation.
Our benchmark is simple and we give it to you straight: when the cost of the repair approaches that of a new heat pump eligible for the LogisVert rebate, replacement often becomes the better math - you walk away with a new unit, under warranty, more efficient, for not much more than the major repair. But if we are talking about a sensor or a minor part on a machine that is still young, repairing is the obvious call.

Nous sommes en copropriété et nous nous doutions qu'une des copropriétaires avait un nid d'oiseau dans son conduit de sécheuse. Pierre-Alexandre est venu faire un bon nettoyage et a été assez respectueux de la nature pour poser sous nos cèdres les 3 oeufs trouvés avec une partie du nid enlevé au cas où la mère reviendrait pour ses petits.
