We never subcontract a gas system. It is our certified people working at your place.

A furnace breakdown in deep cold is urgent and it is serious

When the furnace gives out in January, the house cools down fast - and in Quebec, that is not just a comfort question. A heating failure in deep cold can become a risk to the house (frozen pipes) and to the occupants. It is the kind of repair that should not wait, and that calls for someone qualified.

The most common furnace failures: an ignition problem, a fouled or faulty burner, a heat exchanger issue, a blower no longer pushing air, a thermostat or a filter. On a gas furnace, some of these problems touch on safety - carbon monoxide is not something to improvise with.

Gas and electric are not repaired quite the same way. A gas furnace burns a fuel: igniter, burner, gas valve, flame sensor and heat exchanger are the parts that cause trouble, and a cracked heat exchanger is the serious risk on the carbon monoxide side. An electric furnace heats through elements: there, it is the heating elements, the relays and the sequencers that give out. In both cases, the blower and the thermostat can also be at fault. We repair both, and gas always by certified people.

That is exactly why the certifications matter. Air 2 holds the RBQ 15.2 licence, is a CMMTQ member, and our technician holds the TAG1 card to work on all gas systems. We repair gas and electric alike, and we never subcontract a gas system to someone we do not control.

Furnace repair is part of Air 2's HVAC repair silo: a human answers, the price comes before the job, and the certified in-house team is on site.

The furnace failures we see most

Gas or electric, each one gets diagnosed before it gets priced - and some of them touch on safety.

Ignition problem

The furnace tries to start and cannot, or shuts off in stretches. Often the igniter, the burner or a flame sensor.

Cold air coming out

The blower runs but the air is not warm: a burner, heating element or cycle problem. We find out which.

The blower is weakening

A blower no longer pushing enough air leaves the heat trapped inside the furnace. Fix it fast to avoid overheating the unit.

Gas safety issue

Cracked heat exchanger, carbon monoxide: on gas, that calls for a TAG1 certified technician. We take no shortcuts.

"For a gas furnace, you need a real specialist"

You are right - and that is precisely why we keep our certifications current. Many general HVAC companies touch gas without having all the cards in order, or subcontract the gas portion to a third party. With us, it is our in-house certified team doing the work: RBQ 15.2 licence, CMMTQ member, TAG1 card for gas.

The other thing we hear: "my furnace is old, it is surely beyond repair, we just have to replace it." Not necessarily. Plenty of failures - ignition, burner, blower - repair very well on a furnace that still has years ahead of it. We diagnose, we give you the price before touching anything, and you decide.

That said, if your furnace really is at the end of its life, we do the honest math with you: in Quebec, replacing an old furnace with a central heat pump qualifies for the LogisVert rebate, which often changes the equation. We do not push you toward replacement, but we show you the scenario - and if you choose it, we handle the central heat pump installation.

Frequently asked questions about furnace repair

On a gas furnace, it is often an ignition problem, a fouled burner, a dirty flame sensor or a gas valve. On an electric furnace, it is more likely a heating element or a relay. In both cases, it can also come from the thermostat or from a filter so clogged that the unit trips its safety. We diagnose to find the real cause - some of them touch on safety with gas - then tell you the price before repairing.
When the blower runs but the air is not warm, the furnace is producing no heat or producing it badly: a burner that will not light, a faulty heating element, or a cycle interrupted by a safety. Sometimes it is just the thermostat set to continuous fan. We identify where the problem is coming from and tell you straight what it needs.
It depends on the failure: a flame sensor or a thermostat is nothing like a blower motor or a heat exchanger. So we do not throw out a number over the phone. We diagnose, we identify the cause, and we tell you the exact price before repairing. The evening or weekend rate, if it applies, is stated up front. You know what you are paying before we touch it.
A well-maintained furnace often lasts 15 to 25 years, with electric generally reaching the upper end of the range. Regular maintenance - clean filter, burner checked, blower in good shape - makes a real difference. Past a certain age, when breakdowns start multiplying, it is worth looking at the replacement scenario, especially with the heat pump rebates.
It is an increasingly attractive option in Quebec, especially when the furnace is reaching the end of its life. Replacing an old furnace with a central heat pump qualifies for the LogisVert rebate, and you gain cooling as a bonus. But it is not automatic: if your furnace is still young and the failure is minor, repairing it often remains the right call. We do the honest math on both scenarios with you. If you choose replacement, we take care of the central heat pump installation and the rebate.

(Translated by Google) We live in a condominium and suspected that one of the owners had a bird's nest in her dryer vent. Pierre-Alexandre came and did a thorough cleaning and was very respectful of nature, placing the three eggs he found under our cedar trees, along with part of the nest removed, in case the mother returned for her chicks. He did an excellent job working at heights (3rd floor) and we will definitely contact this company again if needed. Thank you, Pierre-Alexandre!

Merci Pierre-Alexandre
